Now that the Grandparents have been COVID-19 Vaccinated: Is it Safe to bring the Grandkids over to Visit?
The pandemic has really changed the way we meet and visit with loved ones as it has basically wiped that option out with everyone having to social distance in order to slow the spread. However, with older adults, healthcare workers, and assisted living workers and residents getting their COVID-19 vaccinations, restrictions are starting to lessen, which is giving hope to families everywhere.
Is It Safe?
According to recent updates from the CDC, it is safe for fully vaccinated individuals to visit their healthy, unvaccinated family members without wearing masks or social distancing while in private settings. Even though the vaccines are 94 to 95 percent effective and lower the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death, it is recommended that all family members use caution when visiting as it is still unknown whether or not transmission of the virus can occur from a vaccinated person to an unvaccinated person.
Some Things to Consider
While it is now safe for fully vaccinated grandparents to visit their grandkids, there are some things to consider for fully vaccinated individuals. These are some recommendations the CDC provides in a continued effort to slow the spread of the virus to those who are unvaccinated.
- Continue wearing your mask and social distancing in public places.
- If you are meeting with unvaccinated people with a higher risk of getting COVID-19, you should still wear a mask, social distance and, washing your hands. (Also, for unvaccinated people from multiple households).
- Medium to large crowded gatherings should still be avoided.
- If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, then get tested.
- Follow individual employer guidelines.
- In regards to travel, the CDC has not updated travel requirements and recommendations at this time. However, it is advised to follow them once they’re established.
