Fireworks Safety during Fourth of July Celebrations

Fourth of July parties can never be complete without children enjoying the colors and sound of the fireworks as they join others in marking this celebratory holiday. However, there is a need to be cautious to avoid injuries during the parties. Whenever you are out with your children for the 4th of July festivities, prioritize their safety when fireworks are involved. Nevertheless, party excitement may lead to accidents during fireworks events. Read on and discover how you can upscale the fun but still keep your kids safe at a fireworks party or event.

What is the 4th?

The 4th of July, also known as Independence Day, is the celebration of the birth of the US and freedom from British rule. In the past, early settlers used fireworks to bring families together when celebrating the holiday, which is where the tradition of shooting off fireworks was borrowed as a common feature at such parties.Today, many people celebrate the 4th of July with organized potluck picnics and incorporate kid-friendly activities like breaking piñatas, water slides, and various sport games like cornhole, playing catch with a ball, or kick-ball. After eating and the outdoor activities have commenced, it's time for the fireworks.

Children's Safety during a Fireworks Party

While having fun is the ultimate priority at all 4th of July celebrations, it is essential to put safety at the forefront so that everyone, including youngsters, enjoy this wonderful and exciting holiday! Here are some tips to keep children safe around fireworks.

  • Keep a Safe Distance – Make sure your kids are at a safe distance before lighting the fireworks. In addition, avoid using flammable liquids like petrol and paraffin on bonfires.
  • Be Cautious – In case you are using sparklers, make sure your kid is wearing gloves. You can also keep a bucket of water to put out the sparklers after use.
  • Substitute Sparklers – Sparklers have too much heat that can burn areas of kids’ bodies. Instead of using the sparklers, you can replace them with glowing sticks that will still be fun, but less harmful in the long run.
  • Let the Pros Handle the Fireworks – Instead of using fireworks at home with your family, it is safer to attend a public firework display and leave the lighting to the pros.
  • Always Be Prepared for Any Problems – At the end of the event, make sure you put out the sparklers and other fireworks to avoid fire accidents and still put a fire extinguisher nearby. The bottom line here is to mitigate any risk that may arise during kids' outdoor activities.
